Led Zeppelin
1971: Atlantic 82638-2
Well Jesus Christ, what can I say? It’s an incredible and awe-striking pinnacle of rock music. Countless accolades have been written and spoken about it, and they’re all valid in recognizing its supremacy. There isn’t even a “weak” track on this album, that’s how great it is.
I’m not, as the list of albums in my CD collection will show, a fan of Led Zeppelin or of this ilk or musical era. But there really is nothing like this; it just IS, and it is uniquely so, uniquely magnificent, uniquely stunning, overwhelming, enchanting, thrilling, shattering…. It’s not my favorite album in my library, but probably it’s the inherently greatest.
When you see Greatness, acknowledge it and say so: THIS is unparalleled Greatness, and I’m glad to honor it as such here.
