The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
2002: Reprise 48379-2
The first time I played this CD I thought “YOW!!!” I had no idea the music was a strong an element of that opening scene as it was, and in fact hearing it without the visuals taught me that it really is gloriously “big” while at the same time indelibly linked with that incredible sequence of Gandalf and the balrog fighting while plummeting to the depths of Moria. As much as I enjoyed the Fellowship of the Ring music, I loved The Two Towers’ music more, largely because of its Rohan themes and the absence of the cute “light” stuff which made up much of the frosting in the first soundtrack album. The first soundtrack was Storytelling, and this one was Drama. The third one, however, was Epic.
