I think I originally acquired this single in hopes of it being the one that contained the acoustic/demo version of “It Won’t Be Long,” which the one I initially acquired isn’t, but because it had the 8-minutes-plus-long “Infinite Dub” of “Falling” I cherished this single. The original song’s great, “Ode To Boy” is the epiphanic reworking of its Yaz base and I love it even more, but this long ambient mix of “Falling” is wonderful for immersion when I need to disconnect from my surroundings and get some serious design work done, or when I just want to fly for awhile. A similar track is Daniel Bélanger’s “Fugue en Sol Inconnu” (on his album Rêver Mieux).

Why the release with the elusive acoustic version of “It Won’t Be Long” took me until 2008 to find, I truly don’t know. But find it I did, and it’s quite welcome in my collection: that’s a good song, with or without its album-version arrangement, and to hear Moyet’s voice singing it from the core is lovely—as is hearing the context of her songwriting partner Pete Glenister singing it with her. I love Moyet’s studio albums, but this kind of glimpse is very much appreciated to round things out a little more.
