…Nothing Like the Sun
Sting
1987: A&M CD 6402/DX 2163
I’ve had a copy of this on cassette (taped off my own vinyl copy of the LP, no bootlegging) for over 15 years, and only recently (late summer 2005) did I realize it was time to get a CD of it. Acquiring it has meant a complete reassessment of the album, so I’ll have to hold off on true commentary for now, rather than voicing my hitherto-held notions about it.
One thing I do want to note right off the bat, though: “The Lazarus Heart” is not only a gorgeous song, it’s also a dazzlingly effusive tribute by Sting to his recently-deceased mother, full of symbolism and fluid movement.
